Alex Douglas began his pursuit of music at the age of seven. In 1987 he won a full scholarship to study at the renowned Purcell School of Music whilst graduating as a Drapers Hall Scholar with a Bachelor of Music Honours Degree from the Guildhall School of Music and Drama. His principal instruments include the flute and saxophone yet he also enjoys playing acoustic and electric guitars, keyboards and drum kit. He is passionate about teaching the fundamental classical elements of instrumental technique whilst exploring more contemporary jazz and popular music trends, improvisation and reading lead sheets.
Alex was Head of Instrumental Music at the British International School for five years and Instrumental coordinator at The International School @ ParkCity 2014 – 2021. He has Performed at many prestigious venues both here in Malaysia and the UK, including the Dewan Filharmonik Petronas, Alexis Bar, No Black Tie, KLPAC and further a field in the UK at The Purcell Room, Kensington Palace, St Martin-in-the-Fields, The Barbican Foyer and The Drapers Hall, where he was a frequent special guest recitalist. In his spare time he writes and records music and continues to develop his love for the piano.
He looks forward to engaging the aspiring talents of children at BMA and learning new educational approaches that deliver a fun impact of musical awareness and enjoyment shared between both students and colleagues.
