John grew up in the New England area of the US and earned his Bachelor of Music in Performance and Master of Music in Teaching degrees from the Oberlin Conservatory of Music. He went on to play in orchestras in the US and Canada and has taught from beginner through university levels.

John moved to Malaysia in 1998 to become a founding member of the Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra. In 2017 he moved on to the teaching field, working in international schools in Phnom Penh and Desa Park City.

Currently John is working as a freelance performer and educator in the KL area. He lives near KLCC with his Malaysian wife and two cats.
