Lim Yong Jia (Kenny) received his Master of Music degree from the prestigious Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama (RWCMD). During his time at RWCMD, he studied closely with musicians of the BBC National Orchestra of Wales, including Robert Plane (Principal Clarinet) and John Cooper (2nd and Eb Clarinet). He also received tutelage from renowned clarinetists Timothy Lines and Alison Lambert (Bass Clarinet).
Previously, Kenny studied at Middlesex University London, where he received personal guidance from artists such as Janet Hilton, Gonzalo Esteban (MPO Principal Clarinet), Jose Garcia Taborda, Giovanni Punzi (Copenhagen Philharmonic), and Lawrence Fong (NSO). He also participated in masterclasses by Michael Collins and Yehuda Gilad.
In 2015, Kenny was awarded the Malaysian ABRSM Winds Prize, which enabled him to attend the Silpakorn Summer Music School in Thailand, studying under Dr. Yos Vaneesorn. That same year, he gave three solo recitals and masterclasses across Malaysia. As an orchestral performer, Kenny has played with the Malaysian Philharmonic Youth Orchestra, KLpac Orchestra, Philharmonic Winds of Malaysia, KLCO Orchestra, RWCMD Symphony Orchestra, and RWCMD Winds Ensemble. In addition to orchestral work, he is an active chamber musician and has organised chamber music projects since 2019.
He is currently pursuing a Doctor of Philosophy in Music Performance Studies at Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris under the supervision of Dr. Tham Horng Kent. Alongside his academic research, Kenny continues to perform as a freelance musician.
